A Message from President Brian Glatt, MD, FACS

I want to congratulate and thank everyone who was involved in making our 37th Annual, and 1st ever virtual, Meeting of the Northeastern Society of Plastic Surgeons an overwhelming success! Although difficult to believe, it was not too long ago that we were faced with a decision to possibly cancel it secondary to concerns about COVID-19. However, with tremendous support from the NESPS Board and a record number of abstract submissions, it became abundantly clear that we needed to come up with a way to hold our Annual Meeting by any means possible. Although this has been an unconventional year to say the least, I am so grateful that we were able to come together and celebrate the work of so many accomplished young surgeons and students. Program Chair, Dr. Suhail Kanchwala and his committee had the task of reviewing over 400 submitted abstracts (a record for the Society and almost double from previous years). We wish we could have extended the day to allow more presentations, but given the platform and time constraints, opportunities were extremely limited. We hope you will review all of the presentations, especially those which could not be presented live due to time constraints, but were accepted in virtual form, as these will all remain active on our website for the foreseeable future. In addition, the Meeting will be available to view in its entirety on our website as well!

On behalf of myself and the NESPS Board of Directors, thank you again to everyone who participated and attended and made this meeting one of our most successful to date! I hold out hope that we can look forward to a more “normal” Annual Meeting in 2021 and I hope to see all of you there with me in Philadelphia next fall! Dr. Kanchwala and I can assure you that the program will be nothing short of spectacular. And finally, please don’t forget to look out for information about our Spring Workshop in March, which we still hold out hope to host in person, although a virtual version is being planned should circumstances require that format. Either way, all presenters who were previously scheduled from last year have agreed to participate once again, and I have no doubt that the day will be an outstanding educational opportunity for all.

I wish you and your families all the best and please make sure to stay safe and healthy in these trying times!
